Located on the east of Rohtang Pass at around 4,300 meters (14,100 feet), It is a glacial lake renowned for its crystal-clear waters and panoramic views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks.
The lake is situated at an altitude of around 4,267 meters (close to 14,000 feet) above sea level.
The trek provides an excellent opportunity to experience high-altitude hiking and witness the awe-inspiring beauty of the Pir Panjal range. As you ascend towards the lake, you will gradually acclimatize to the altitude, ensuring a safe and enjoyable trekking experience.
The trek is classified as a moderate-level trek. While it doesn’t require extensive mountaineering skills, a certain level of physical fitness is recommended.
The trail in the Beas Kund Valley involves steep ascents and descents, which can sometimes be challenging. However, most individuals can undertake this trek with proper preparation, including regular exercise and stamina-building activities.
Trekking agencies charge around INR 5,000 – INR 7,000 per person for the trek, which includes food, accommodation, entry fees, toilet tents and guidance from trek leaders. Some organizations also have the pick-up and drop from Manali to the start point & back.
The best time to embark on this trek is May-June & August-October. The weather remains pleasant during this period, with moderate temperatures and clear skies.
The summer months of May and June offer blooming flowers and lush greenery, while September and October treat you to vibrant autumn colors.
It is advisable to avoid the monsoon season due to heavy rainfall and potential landslides.
Gulaba is the usual starting point for the trek. First you have to reach Manali, from there you can hire a taxi or take a local bus to reach Gulaba. The distance between Manali and Gulaba is approximately 22 kilometers, and the journey takes around 1 hour by road. The cab fare is approximately INR 1200 – INR 1500.
Day 1: Drive from Manali to Gulaba to Rola Kholi (7 KM | 6 Hours)
The trek begins from Gulaba which is located at an altitude of 3,000M and takes you to the picturesque Rola Kholi campsite at an alttiude of 3,810M. The trail passes through thick forests of oak and pine trees, offering refreshing views and a serene environment.
Day 2: Rola Kholi to Bhrigu Lake (4,267M) (5 KM | 4 Hours)
On the second day, early in the morning you ascend towards the lake, traversing meadows adorned with vibrant alpine flowers. As you reach the lake, be prepared to be mesmerized by its pristine beauty and the panoramic vistas of snow-capped peaks.
Day 3: Bhrigu Lake to Gulaba (7M | 4 Hours)
The final day of the trek involves descending back to Gulaba, where you bid farewell to the enchanting glacial Lake and cherish the memories of the journey.
